Test of Columbia Ravenous 2010
I just reach the threshold of 500 km with the pair of COLUMBIA Ravenous I have in testing since mid-May Soon some pictures of the condition of the shoes:
Benefits:
- Comfort of the shoe (9 / 10)
Simply stunning! Once donned it feels like slippers. The liner secures the foot and can run many miles without feeling any heat or annoying point. I had the opportunity to test them on a course of 4 days with 120km and 6100D + no pain. For me the highlight of the shoe!
- Amortized (7 / 10)
At the beginning of the test I was cushioned the No. 1 asset of the Ravenous but after 500km I must admit that I begin to feel the sharp stones under the sole. Nothing too alarming but I think it will deteriorate rapidly. For everyday use (about 800km) I have to note down in from 9 to 7 / 10 which is well above average again.
- Dynamics (7 / 10)
A trail shoe weighs 310gr (in 43 1 / 3) is necessarily dynamic. Tested on track, fartlek type sessions at ... she has passed all tests of acceleration / raises with success!
- Flexibility (7 / 10)
Shoe flexible and maneuverable despite its rigid sole. I also use it for jogging on the road!
- Grip (6 / 10)
This is not a shoe for the pure mountain enthusiasts scree descents (vibram sole recommended) but it will fill the runners over distances of half-long (0 to 45-50km) over varied terrain. She is perfect in the woods, on dry ground, well broken in, stands well in the mud despite a shallow detent.
- Lifetime (3 / 10)
Unfortunately any shoe comfortable, flexible and dynamic often means it will wear out faster. The Ravenous does not derogate from the rule: 500km and I already feel a little breathless. The midsole Techlite took a hit of old, the cushioning is no longer interesting. The wear is not seen at the moment but its not far off.
- Lacing (2 / 10)
If you keep the laces classic original bulbs hello! Unable to sufficiently tighten the kick! I had to invest in a pair of X-Tenex (yaw-locking) to solve the problem. Since everything is ok ... to change the next model M. Columbia!
Conclusion:
If I had to buy a pair I think I'd be willing to take the COLUMBIA Ravenous.
Despite this little problem lacing, I am fully satisfied with this pair of Trail that I take on any terrain. The price is interesting, it is found on the Internet at € 90 (excluding salaries). At that price I'm willing to sacrifice a few kilometers for perfect comfort ...
I continue to wear this summer and probably for the Gap Trail Cîmes October 3, 2010 to finish off the experience "Ravenous"!

Ping: Columbia Ravenous: they take the road!
Hi,
I test this shoe right now, Run with me Alp proposed.
I completely agree with you on all points except life since I have a few kms up with Columbia.
For the laces, I add a default: they loose very easily!
Finally, a good pump really bluffing trail comfort level and recovery!
@ Ben
You tried with X-like shoelaces tenex?
No, I will have to invest in this type of laces! It will serve me for my triathlon
